On a villa rental site, the visitor has usually already decided: they are going on holiday and will rent a villa. The question is whether they will do it through your site or someone else’s. As a team that has built villa rental sites for years, these are the seven mistakes we see most often.
1. Pushing trust to the background
The visitor is going to pay an advance for a villa they have not seen and a company they do not know. Trust signals therefore belong on the first screen: the licence number, a reachable phone line, real guest reviews and transparent cancellation terms. Hiding them at the bottom of the “About” page means losing the booking outright.
2. Making search complicated
Three questions are on the guest’s mind: When? How many people? Where? The search box should start with these three; details like pool type, number of rooms or sea view should be left to advanced search. Ten filters on the first screen push the visitor not to think but to close the tab.
3. Hiding availability and price
“Call for price” no longer works in villa rental. Guests want to see availability and the total price for the dates they chose. An up-to-date calendar and a seasonal price table cut your phone traffic while raising conversion.
4. Using photos the wrong way
In villa rental the product is the photo. But very large, uncompressed photos slow the page down, while low-quality photos make the villa look worse than it is. The right solution: well-shot photos, automatically converted to the right size and modern formats (WebP, AVIF).
5. Treating mobile as an afterthought
Holiday research mostly happens on the phone: on the sofa in the evening, on a lunch break, on the road. The calendar picker, photo gallery and booking form must be comfortable to use with a finger. A site that looks great on desktop but struggles on mobile is most noticeable here.
6. Relying on a single contact channel
Some guests fill in the form, some call, and most write on WhatsApp. A button on every villa page that opens a ready WhatsApp message with that villa’s name makes contact easier and instantly shows you which villa the message is about.
7. Building the site and leaving it
Villa rental is seasonal. Prices change every season, new villas are added and some leave the portfolio. Updating the site at the start of the season, keeping the server up in peak periods and protecting visibility in search engines are ongoing work. Running this with a team that knows the site’s structure prevents surprises in the middle of the season.
